A Dress Form Solution: Ditto
Ditto looks to be a dress form that is truly YOU ... AND Pin-able!
At the Southeast Sewing Escape Weekend in Chattanooga a few weeks ago, I was excited to meet Carol, the owner of Ditto Form, who was a sponsor of the conference. Carol gave me a great video interview, but darned if the sound turned out to be totally ruined - so this post will just have to take the place of that interview. I do realize this might read as an advertisement, and I don’t mean it to be. Carol did not ask me to recommend her or pay me in any way to cover her product. However, I use a dress form every time I design and sew! I created a Duct Form double with Jean Haas years ago at my shop - as did many of my customers. The only problem with that ‘double’ is that duct tape is VERY sticky - and as I design, I find that it is imperative to be able to stick into my dress form. Currently, I have and use a Fabulous Fit dress form - which works for me since I can pad it out to other sizes. I’m rarely sewing for myself these days, as I hve 2 closets full of clothes. Instead, my sewing time is devoted to designing and sewing garments for sale (check out my Londa Originals HERE) - generally upcycled varieties - and in many various sizes, depending on the size garments I start with.
WHAT is a Ditto Dress Form?
“A DittoForm is a custom dress form made by 3d carving a foam model from a 3d image of YOU. It is a tool that gives you a Copy (a ditto) of yourself – a pin-able, patient stand-in – so YOU can see how clothing can be adjusted to fit YOUR unique body.”
How does this magic happen? Carol has quite the process: starting with a scan appointment. During a scan appointment you stand for a few minutes in your best natural posture while Carol walks around you with her high-res 3D scanner, capturing Your Image. Click on this link to see Carol’s schedule:

Eight to ten weeks later, you receive your DittoForm and the magic truly begins. Watch this video that will explain the process and the product a bit more clearly.

Searching the internet for what others, who have invested in the Ditto Form, have to say - I found this, which I feel will be very helpful if you are considering a dress form. Again, I think owning a dress form is absolutely a MUST to achieve a good fit, and for any designing you might have in your future. Sew - from one Sewist to many others: seriously consider investing in a dress form. Personally, it seems to me that the Ditto Form is a very good option.
